The Hague: Art, History and Sun-Drenched Beaches
Hallo iedereen! đłđ±
It was a sun-drenched mid-September day when my friends and I decided to explore The Hague, a city in the coast of the Netherlands also known as the International City of Peace and Justice đïž However, The Hague is not only legal insititutions, it is much more. Join me taking you through a day filled with art, history and beachside bliss đ„°
The city center
Reaching The Hague is a breeze. From Eden-Wageningen we quickly changed the train in Utrecht Central and in less than 75 minutes we found ourselves on the other side of the country. The central station is in the heart of the city, just few minutes strolling around and we’re already in front of The Dutch Parliament and the former Ministry of Justice. Indeed, The Hague is not only the third biggest city in the Netherlands, but is also the country’s administrative hub.
Our first stop was the Mauritshuis, the oldest museum in the Netherlands and home to Vermeer’s masterpiece, Girl with a Pearl Earring. TIP for future explorers: buy your tickets for the museum beforehand to ensure a glimpse of this artistic treasure âš
While we were walking towards the Peace Palace, we strumbled upon a charming flea market, where we met the cutest doggo đđ¶
The Peace Palace, is the house of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the United Nations International Court of Justice. It’s possible to visit it only with a guided tour, however, the Visitors Center which is located right at the entrance of the Palace offers a window into the history of the building and it has a wonderful view of the Place and the garden. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 17:00 and itâs free of charge đïž
Scheveningen – A kilometre-long beach đ
From the Peace Palace we decided to take a one-hour walk to Scheveningen Beach, it was a picturesque pathway enveloped in greenery that we truly loved. Once arrived we enjoyed walking on the boulevard parallel to the beach. We’re in Scheveningen Boulevard beach and in front of us there was the Pier. This iconic Pier is a delightful spot for a leisurely stroll, offering many attractions, unique shops and charming eateries. After a delicious gelato, we decided to walk along the sandy beach and take a refreshing dip in the ocean đ
It was already time to go back to the city, so we hopped on a quaint tram from Den Haag Kurhaus to the city center. We paused for a delicious strawberry iced matcha latte, a perfect blend of flavors to recharge us! As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over The Hague, our daily adventure ended đ
So, whether you’re drawn to Vermeer’s masterpieces, intrigued by history and halls of justice or willing to spend one day by the ocean, The Hague is the perfect destination for a memorable experience âš
Doidoi for now till our next rendezvous! đ„°
