Reviewing Viral Foods in Amsterdam – Worth it?

Ever wondered if all those viral foods are worth the line-waiting? Well here’s a review of some of the most famous, line-inducing foods in Amsterdam and whether or not they’re worth your time ~

Rudi’s Original Stroopwafels at Albert Cuyp Market

The Albert Cuyp Market is a huge market with tons of different stalls selling all things Dutch. It’s both a local and tourist favourite and arguably the most famous stall is Rudi’s Original Stroopwafels. I haven’t actually tried it myself yet BUT my friends tell me that it’s pretty good and worth the try. It’s also fairly priced (3€) unlike the majority of stroopwafels you’ll find in the touristy areas in Amsterdam. I’ve seen stroopwafels sold for 8€, 10€ and even 15€! So please don’t get those because the average fresh stroopwafel should cost you no more than 2-3€. I also recommend this one stroopwafel cart in Leiden center, next to Hartebrugkerk. It’s 2.50€, really big and always fresh and warm!

Fabel Friet Runstraat

This is something I saw all over my fyp before coming to the Netherlands. It’s basically a french fry shop and you can get french fries with all sorts of toppings, the most famous being the truffle mayo and parmesan – which is what I got. Usually there’s this massive line that goes all the way over the bridge, it’s kind of crazy ngl. But when I got them, it was later in the evening and there was basically no line. My review is it’s good, but I’ve had better and personally I would not wait in a super duper long line – there’s better things to be doing and eating in Amsterdam.

Van Stapele Koekmakerij

Honestly, I didn’t know about this one until a friend told me. But even before that, I’ve passed by this cookie store/bakery multiple times and also seen the insane line that forms. I happened to pass by it on a weekday, and at that moment there was barely a line, so my friend and I decided to give it a try. By the time we reached the counter, this massive line had started to form behind us, so we just got really lucky. Anyways, so what is it actually? It’s a really aesthetic looking bakery selling one type of cookie. It’s a chocolate cookie with a white chocolate center – a very good cookie, but like it’s a cookie, not gonna blow your mind. So, get it if there’s not too long of a line, but once again, I think there’s better things to be doing than waiting in line for like an hour for a chocolate cookie 🙂

Kibbeling

I don’t actually know if this is super famous BUT I just wanted to include it because I think if you’re in the Netherlands you gotta try these! They’re basically deep fried pieces of fish served with a tartar sauce. They’re honestly very similar to the fish in fish n chips and you can find them sold in all farmers markets and also in many shops around the Netherlands.

That’s it for my first post of the year & I’ll see you in my next entry!
