Goodbye Tokyo~

It’s now June, and I am back in Sweden. I have handed in my thesis and graduated from the Biomedicine master’s program! 🎓

Reflection

I remember being very hesitant about going to Japan for my thesis, it was a decision I headached over for a while. But now, I can confidently say that I am happy that I went, and I have no regrets. These past 4 months have been hectic but so eventful! Due to this opportunity, I was able to experience things I never would have, and I was able to make truly invaluable memories there.

My project was not easy. Especially since I was new to the computational field and supervision was minimal. It took me a long while to understand and learn how to use the tools for my project, as no one in my lab had used them before either. Nonetheless, I managed! I learnt a lot, and I was able to work on the weekdays (often 10:00 to 19:00), then go out and explore at the weekends. I got to experience a life without cooking and still be able to eat delicious food XP.

Admittedly, it was not very easy to meet people outside the lab. As I don’t take classes during my research project. It was something I worried over before coming, since that is a common issue with my other friends who were here too. However, after 4 months, I’m glad to say that I did manage to make friends. Whether it was randomly in a restaurant outside Tokyo, or from joining an aikido club.

Should you go on exchange?

For those like me who are hesitant about going on an exchange, I say go for it. It is always difficult in the beginning, but you’ll come to really appreciate the experience you’ve gained.

Maybe you’ll grow as a person, too. As someone who used to dislike exploring by myself, I’d say I’ve come across some personal development XD. I have never been more comfortable wandering around and eating out alone now.

Logging off

Thank you to anyone who followed me through this journey, and I’m glad to have been able to share parts of it through these blogs! I hope the tips I share will come in useful to those exchanging in the future, and I hope people enjoyed it!

Now, it’s time for me to log off. So good luck to everyone and goodbye!
