Hello from the Netherlands!
Welcome to my exchange studies blog ~
I’m Rebekah and I’m a second year student at KI studying the our and only international Bachelor’s – Biomedicine! Right now I’m in the Netherlands, at Leiden University for my exchange and I’m super excited to share my experiences with you all!
About me:
But before that, a little about me: So, I’m Chinese but I was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Although I then spent most of my life growing up in the south of Sweden – Helsingborg and Malmö. Then, last autumn I moved up to Stockholm to start my uni life at KI, and now a year later I’m in Leiden (and I’ll be here till the end of the year).
Why Leiden?
To be honest, I had no choice (not that I’m complaining because I’ve really been liking it here). But basically, for us Biomedicine students, other than being able to do our degree project abroad in our final year, we also have the option of exchanging to specifically Leiden University in our second year. So, having spent almost my entire life in Sweden, I was up for anything that got me out of the country! 🙂
Where am I staying?
Now, the Netherlands, much like Stockholm, is not exactly the easiest place to find housing. (I’ll write more about how to prepare for the exchange and finding housing in my next entry.) During my time here, I’ll be staying in the student dorms in Voorschoten (it’s a town right next to Leiden). Since I lived on my own in Stockholm, I’m actually pretty excited to experience dorm-life and I’ll share my thoughts about it in a later entry!
What’s the plan?
I don’t have a very detailed plan of things I’ll be doing (other than my studies) while I’m here. But, one thing for sure is that I’ll be travelling around the Netherlands, so you can expect updates on these cities:
- Amsterdam
- The Hague
- Rotterdam
- Utrecht
- Giethoorn (I actually just visited a few days ago, so a blog entry will be up soon!)
I want to explore and experience as much as I can, so if you have any recommendations for things to do or places to go (both Leiden and the Netherlands in general), please do let me know!
Also, if you have any questions, feel free to drop them below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
See you in my next entry!
/ Rebekah
PS. If you’d like to see some vlogs of this exchange I’ve been posting on YouTube @rebekah.djin – it’s not super up to date, but I’m editing as fast as I can!
